How to add ads to my Unity browser-based project using Unity Web Player?

Stephen Prastman
Answer by Stephen Prastman

You can add ads to your projects using the Unity Ads platform. This is an exclusive platform that offers developers the possibility of implementing ads to their Unity-based projects. You need to create an account on the official website and then download the necessary SDK package. This will help you to implement the code into your projects.

Sign up using the following link: https://unityads.unity3d.com/admin/#signup

After this, click the Documentation link in the Admin menu and use the available information to implement the necessary code into your project.

Does the Unity Web Player have adware?

Stephen Prastman
Answer by Stephen Prastman

No, the Web Player doesn't have adware. In fact, the developers have implemented security features that resemble the Sandbox environment. This means the code is not allowed to be tampered with and everything bad that might eventually happen is kept under control in the Sandbox environment. This means you are protected from various threats. The Web Player doesn't have adware.

Unfortunately, the Unity Web Player works only on PC or Mac systems ( http://unity3d.com/webplayer/ ), and Kindle Fire is an Android-based tablet.

Answer by Sean Hill

The Unity Web Player is not compatible with Android because it hasn't been developed for this operating system. You can't install anything to play Facebook games because there is no available plug-in to replace the Unity Web Player.

Unity Web Player allows you to view, play and interact with content created with the help of Unity engine, which is very popular nowadays. It's something like Adobe Flash Player which is needed to view content created with the help of Adobe Flash.

How to update Unity Web Player?

Stephen Prastman
Answer by Stephen Prastman

There are two ways to trigger the update:

  1. Go to c:\Users\{you}\AppData\LocalLow\Unity\WebPlayer and replace {your} with your username. Once the folder opens, launch UnityWebPlayerUpdate.exe and wait a little. If there is an update, it will be downloaded and applied automatically.

  2. Download the latest version from its official website and download it. Install Web Player by overwriting it and that's it. Make sure your browsers are closed while this operations completes successfully.

Is there an Offline Mode for Unity Web Player?

Stephen Prastman
Answer by Stephen Prastman

No, there is no Offline mode, but there are 3rd party applications created to support that. Firstly, you will need a browser plug-in to download the necessary files and then a player to open that file, even if you don't have Internet access.

Download the UniPlayer developed to play the necessary files: http://www.nibiirosoft.com/Product/UniPlayer_en.html

Download the Browser plug-in: http://www.chromeextensions.org/music-videos-photos/getflash/#.VczLMflVhvF

The browser-plug-in will display a Download button above the Unity project. Right click it and choose Save as. The file offered will have .unity3d as extension.

Open the UniPlayer and go to File > Open. Load the file and that's it.

Note: Chrome browser needs to be installed to install the plug-in.

Stephen Prastman
Answer by Stephen Prastman

The player should start automatically when it detects a content that requires the plug-in. However, try updating it to the latest version from the official website and update your default browser. It should work after this process.

As a side notice, try disabling your download managers because the Unity player is ZIP embedded and it might be captured by the download manager.
